Wolf Moon (private rp) - Page 5 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Wolf Moon (private rp)   Wolf Moon (private rp) - Page 5 EmptyWed Jan 01, 2014 5:29 am

Valshar growled. He knew that any wolf away from the pack risked such an end, but he wanted to figure out what happened. They were still outside the pack’s territory but close enough that it concerned him. He walked back over to Melody.

“Tyroth’s been killed.”

She gasped and her eyes grew wide. “Can you tell what happened?”

“It looks like it’s probably been a while, likely days since it happened. Trail if I could even find one is probably going to be very cold by now. Bide a moment, let me think.”

He looked around, and finally thought of a long shot of an idea, but figured it was worth a try. He gave a strange short yowling call, and sat back on his haunches to wait.

Melody tried to keep the horse from picking up on her nervousness, but the mare still stamped her feet a few times and tossed her head unhappily.

Soon the call Valshar had made was answered with a higher pitched call, and several small beings rushed out of the forest and bushes to gather around them. Valshar stood up and one of the small beings stepped forward a bit from the rest.

“Who calls Kedarri?” Her voice was high but clear, aside from an odd accent.

“Valshar calls Kedarri, friend.”

She moved closer to him and her round face and large brown eyes brightened, “Valshar wolf!” She hugged him, barely able to reach half around his neck. “Tepani, me. Remember Tepani?”

He smiled, “I see you Tepani, I remember.”

She beamed more, “Why call?”

“Need help, need Kedarri help.”

“What help need?” She bobbed and tilted her head.

He pointed in the direction of Tyroth’s body. “A wolf was killed, was pack, but not pack.”

Tepani’s head bobbed again, “We eyes saw wolf. Sad we.”

He nodded, “Did any of the Kedarri see what happened, or do you know when it happened?”

Tepani turned to the gathered Kedarri and chattered and squeaked and they murmured amongst themselves for a long moment. Then a different one stepped forward.

“Me eyes saw, much fear, bad see.” She was an older Kedarri from the look of her and her voice was a little hoarse.

Valshar nodded, “Tell what see, please.”

“Nomori me.” She tapped her chest and then bobbed her head.

“I see you Nomori, tell what see, need to know what happened.”

“Wolf sleep, we see, we watch, he sleep long.” She paused, as though trying to figure out the words for what she needed to say, “Other wolf come, strange wolf, many wolf.”

Valshar tilted his head, “The wolf who died, he was sleeping? Was it day light?”

She nodded, and Valshar cursed under his breath, and then nodded for her to continue.

“Many wolf come, bad wolf, they all around sleeping wolf. When he wake, he no have any place to run.”

Valshar growled a little, and the Kedarri blinked at him. “We say wrong?”

He shook his head, “No, news is bad, upset me, but you right to say what see.” He thought for a moment, “How many other wolves were there?”

She closed her eyes, as if trying to remember, then held up one paw like hand.

“Four?”

She nodded.

“How long ago? When see?”

“Three circles of great sun.”

He sighed. “Three days ago, and the fool fell asleep in the open during the day. It’s little wonder he got himself killed. Still, strange wolves this close…” He looked over at Nomari again. “Can you tell what the strange wolves looked like? What color fur?”

She closed her eyes, and tapped her broad forehead for a moment, then bent down and dug at the ground, exposing the reddish clay below the grass. “Biggest wolf, like this.”

“A red wolf like the clay?”

She nodded.

“What about the others?”

She looked around trying to find something and then looked up and pointed at the thick grayish white clouds over head. “Like that, all rest like that.”

He stifled another, more vicious curse, lest he startle the Kedarri again. “Thank you, Nomari.”

“We help Valshar wolf?”

“Much help, many thanks Kedarri friends.”

Nomari bobbed her head and backed up with the rest of the group. Tepani hugged him again and then scurried back to rejoin her group and as one they all melted back into the forest.

Valshar sat back on his haunches and cursed. His mind going over what the Kedarri had told him kept reaching the same unpleasant conclusion no matter how many ways he looked at it. Finally he shook himself and looked over at Melody.

“Come on, we have to get to the pack, as quickly as that beast will go.”

Melody could hear the anger and tension in his voice despite him trying to hold it back for her sake. She could tell by the look in his burning amber eyes that something wasn't right. "I'll get her to go as fast as she can but she's already worn from this morning. Are we at least almost there?" She asked.

"We're not even close. We are still less than halfway out."

The snappish tone startled her. "Would we at least be able to rest for some time th-"

"Melody, we don't have time for it." Valshar's sharp voice cut her of quickly. He was more than tempted to snap at the mare as Melody urged it forward into a quick trot, but he remembered Edward's warning and silently cursed the animal as he followed closely down the trail. "We have to mvoe faster than this." He growled anxiously.

"I'm doing the best I can, alright?" Melody all but yelled at him. "She is tired, and I would prefer not to run her to death!"

Whatever he had seen in the forest had him worried and it was making her hair stand on end when he snapped at her and she resisted the urge to snap back at him.

Valshar cast a sidelong glare at the horse that was obviously never going to be able to keep up the pace he needed. He gave out a long deep howl as he trotted along beside the weary mare. A half hour passed and the mare was at a walk now, and he struggled to hold his temper. He didn’t want to snap at Melody again, it wouldn’t help, and he knew his temper shouldn’t have been directed at her in the first place.

“I’m sorry, Melody, I know the beast is doing the best she can, and I know you are too. I apologize for being harsh.”

She nodded, worried about what could have upset him so badly. She’d only been able to make out part of what the strange beings were telling him.

Low howls moving toward them announced a group of runner wolves who stopped just ahead of them and bowed their heads to Valshar. He nodded in return and then nodded to Melody and the tired horse.

“I have to get to the pack. Melody’s horse is too tired to keep pace. You are to keep with her, let the beast rest and keep Melody safe and guide her to the pack.”

They nodded and moved to circle the mare who gave them a wary glance but was too tired to protest the situation. Valshar looked up at Melody.

“The pack needs to know what happened, and I need to deal with things after I tell them. You’ll be safe enough with these wolves, you can let the mare rest and catch her breath again.”

Melody frowned at the idea of him going ahead but figured it must be urgent for him to leave her behind. “Alright. I’ll hurry her as much as I can.”

He nodded, “If you’ve not reached me by the time I’m done I’ll come back and catch up with you.”

He gave a look to the group of wolves and they all nodded, knowing exactly that he’d flay their fur off if anything happened to her. Satisfied, he launched himself into the full run he’d been unable to do with the horse along.

By the time he reached the pack’s territory, another messenger had met him to inform him that the council and Kynar were already assembled and waiting for him. He nodded and altered his course a bit to go to the council circle.

As he stepped his way to stand in the middle of the council, Valshar let out an uneasy growl and paced.

"With the urgent matter at hand, I will be brief." He told them as they bowed their heads in greetings. "While returning to the pack lands from the pack lands, a few miles from the eastern border I discovered Tyroth's body. After speaking with the Kedarri it seems that the Northern Pack is not just along our southern borders."

The noises and mutters of surprise, as well as worry, echoed around him. Valshar could hear Kynar step forward. "My Alpha, it is not just these borders." He spoke up quickly. "Before you had arrived we received word that a shewolf was killed near the northwestern border. There is also a patrol group that hasn't been heard from since last evening."

Valshar’s eyes narrowed, “A she?”

Kynar nodded solemnly.

“Damn.” Valshar growled. Losing a male from the pack was bad enough, but losing a female was even more devastating. “Where was the patrol last seen?”

“Northeast border, last we heard from them, just past the oak grove.”

He nodded, “Send out word, by runners, to the whole pack. Have everyone fall back to the vicinity of the Rock. Given the recent events, and likely threat of an invasion by the northern pack, we can’t defend everyone if they’re spread out over the whole range. We need everyone, especially females and young, where we can defend them.”

Kynar nodded, “Understood.”

Valshar sighed, “Also, send a detail back to see to Tyroth.”

Kynar nodded again, “Alright.”

The council wolves nodded and spread out to see to what needed to be done. Kynar caught the look in Valshar’s eyes and stayed behind. When the others were out of earshot he walked over to Valshar and smiled.

“I take it we have some happy news even in the midst of this mess?”

Valshar grinned and nodded, “Melody agreed to marry me.”

Kynar chuckled, “Remind me to offer her my sympathies when I see her.”

Valshar glared at him, and then turned his attention back to the matters at hand. “I just wish it didn’t come at a time when we’re looking at war. I suppose there’s one way to stop that though.”

Kynar looked at him hard and shook his head, “Valshar, you’re insane if you’re thinking what I think you’re thinking.”

He laughed, “I figured people already thought I was insane.”

“Well that would be one way to remove all possible doubt. Especially when you don’t have anyone to take over for you.”

Valshar grinned, “I thought I’d just retire and let you have the job.”

The older wolf snorted, “Oh hell no. That job is all yours.” He grew more serious, “So you really think he’s behind this?”

Valshar nodded gravely, “Northern wolves, nothing happens in the north without his orders, it has to be him. One, maybe two wolves leaving the pack and acting on their own would be possible, but we’re seeing more than just one or two wolves involved in these attacks. Besides, no one in their right mind kills a female. I want to know what the hell happened there. Did she have family?”

Kynar nodded, “Three cubs, another she’s taken them in. Think the Kedarri might have seen?”

“Maybe. I’ll try to find and ask them later. First thing, we need to find that missing patrol. Operate on the assumption that there are at least four of them, so adjust our patrol groups accordingly.”

Kynar nodded, “Alright, looks like you have other things to tend to.” He grinned as he looked past Valshar who turned.

Melody apparently had finally gotten some fresh speed out of the mare and was just arriving.

“That’s one relief at least. Keep me posted.”

Kynar chuckled, “Nice looking horse.”

“Hmph, belongs to Sani, so I can’t even eat it.”

Kynar tilted his head, “Sani…? The vampire?”

“The same.”

“Eat her horse, she eats you eh?”

Valshar laughed, “Nah, she doesn’t like the taste of wolf blood, I’d just have to pay for it.” He turned and headed over to greet Melody, nodding an acknowledgement and thanks to the runner escort as they moved off to see to other duties.

“Well, the beast finally learned to move hm?” He teased, trying not to let her see how worried he was about the situation.

“I’ve got a temporary home set up, it’s not fancy but it works until we can get something more suitable built.”

He shifted to human form and helped her down from the mare’s back and grabbed the packs. He led the way to the lair that had been set aside for his use and he sat the packs down and looked over at her with a smile.

“So, welcome to the pack.” He laughed.

"Oh thank goodness." Melody told him after his greeting and practically fell into his arms for a tight hug. "That was the longest time I've ever ridden a horse. I'm ready to just sit here for days and I'm sure the mare is, as well."

Valshar kissed her lightly, smiling at her blush before he led her further inside to sit near a shallow dip in the ground. "Rest here, then. I'll get a fire going and get something going for a small meal."

She nodded thankfully setting herself down closer to the wall. "Will you tell me why you had rushed off so suddenly?" She had asked him later after he retrieved some fire wood. He had been trying to light it and nearly dropped the match when he heard her question.

"Not tonight, Melody. Perhaps if I have time. There are a some things I need to have taken care of, first. Until then I would ask that you refrain from your sight-seeing the pack lands. At least until I can go with you."

Melody let out a defeated sigh. She had been planning to ride out first thing in the morning but now that plan had to be set aside.

"Can't I have an escort like I had earlier? I don't think I'd be able to sit still for long, here. I know it's only temporary residence here but it's not something I'm used to."

PostSubject: Re: Wolf Moon (private rp)   Wolf Moon (private rp) - Page 5 EmptyWed Jan 01, 2014 9:52 pm

He bit his lip while he worked on getting the fire going and well banked. He knew he’d have to tell her eventually, but he wasn’t ready for that quite yet.

There was a short bark of inquiry from outside and he raised his head, wondering what had happened now. “Come.” He called out.

A woman appearing to be of middle age with a round and cheerful face to match her rather plump form ducked inside carrying a covered pot and a basket.

“Alpha.” She nodded, lowering her eyes in greeting.

“Ah, Miriam, hello. What brings you?”

She smiled and glanced over at Melody, and then back to him. “Kynar said things have kept you busy and that you likely haven’t had time to hunt. I’ve had all day to be fixing things, and we’ve plenty extra. I thought I’d bring some over for the both of you.”

He took the offered pot and sat it beside the fire so it would keep warm and then the basket which was filled with bread and some cheese and a full skin of wine. He smiled and nodded to her, “It is deeply appreciated, Miriam. Kynar was quite right; I haven’t been able to hunt yet.”

Valshar noticed Melody’s look of curiosity and cleared his throat, “Forgive my manners. Melody, this is Miriam. Miriam, Melody.”

Miriam smiled warmly, “A pleasure to meet you. If there’s anything you need, if I can help, let me know.”

“Thank you.”

She nodded and then left. He turned back to Melody, “That’s Kynar’s new mate.”

Melody nodded, the thought slowly sinking in. New mate. Is that how people would refer to me? She wondered. Valshar’s new mate.

Finally she looked over at him, and took the bowl of stew he offered. “What happened?”

He blinked as he looked at her, “Hm? With what? Kynar’s mate?”

She nodded, and he sighed, “He lost his first mate about two months before…” he hesitated, “Before Alora was killed. I think that’s part of why we understand each other so well.” He ate a few bites of the stew before continuing.

“The way Alora was killed… I… I want to think that it was quick, that she didn’t suffer too greatly at the end. For Kynar’s mate though, it was worse. She developed a sickness that sometimes afflicts wolves. There’s no cure for it, and as it progresses it causes sheer agony and suffering to the sick wolf. It got so bad that she begged him to kill her, to end the agony.”

She paled and stared wide eyed, “Did he?”

Valshar looked up at her, then back down to the bowl in front of him. Finally he nodded, “They both knew that it was only going to get worse until it killed her anyway, and he couldn’t take seeing her in so much pain, suffering so badly. I can also understand the temptation he must have felt at that moment, to follow her.”

He took a deep breath and shook himself, reaching over for the wineskin. He opened it and took a drink. “Ah, but we’re stubborn old wolves, he and I.”

She nodded, “Are you going to tell me what’s going on? Why can’t I go riding around the pack lands tomorrow?”

He sighed deeply and stuffed a piece of cheese in his mouth while he thought for a moment. “It’s not safe right now. Tyroth was killed by a small group of wolves from another pack. There’ve been other incidents and it appears that others have also been killed by them. Until I’m sure it’s safe, you must stay near here where I can make sure you’re protected.”

Melody nodded in understanding, moving to lean against his shoulder. They sat in silence as he hate and she declined when he tried to offer her some bread. "I wish you would tell me these things sooner." she huffed. Even though her voice came out sounding more angry than she intended, at the moment she could feel anything but angered at Valshar. Even if she wanted to be frustrated at him she doubt she could....for very long anyways.

"You don't need to worry about these matters. Not now, while you will be adjusting to the pack, at least. These are problems that only the Alpha need worry about."

"I don't see you as an alpha." Melody protested. "I see you as human, my fiance. My future husband. We are supposed to share our problems, thoughts and worries no matter what."

She moved away from him and stood before leading herself towards the entrance of the lair. "I'm going to see to the mare and head to bed afterwards."

Valshar sighed and rose to follow her outside. He moved to stand beside her as she checked the mare over and made sure she was settling in.

“I’m sorry, Melody. I guess we both have some adjusting to do. It’s been a long time since I’ve had someone in my life to share things with, I suppose I’m still getting used to the idea. I also didn’t want to worry you until we knew more about the situation.”

She nodded and put her hand on his arm, “I understand. But Valshar, if I’m supposed to be able to help and support you in things, I need to know, even if you think it will worry me. I’m sure there’s bound to be plenty of that, but I can’t help you if I don’t know what’s going on.”

He pulled her into a hug and nodded, “You’re right, of course. I’ll do my best to remember that. Forgive me?”

She hugged him back and nodded, “Yes. Now, do you want to talk about it?”

He shook his head, “Not especially.”

She looked up at him with a frown, “Valshar.”

He smiled, “It’s just that we still don’t really know enough to suit me. I have a pretty good idea who’s behind things, but we don’t know why for sure, what they’re planning or where the ones doing these attacks are. That’s why it’s not safe for you to be wandering around too far into the territory. We don’t know where they could strike next.”

Suddenly a commotion and loud shout rang out and he turned as four wolves rushed in, one carrying someone on his back. Valshar shifted into wolf form and hurried over to meet them.

“What happened?”

“Found what’s left of the patrol, Alpha. The other two of the party were killed, Selan here is badly wounded. We got him back as fast as we could.”

Already the pack’s healers were moving in to take charge of the injured wolf. Valshar nodded grimly as he appraised the wolf’s condition. “Let me know if he recovers enough to talk, please.” The healers nodded and focused on their task.

He turned to the others, “Where did you find them?”

“Half mile inside the north border, looks like they were attacked and tried to disengage and bolt for help, but weren’t fast enough.”

“Any sign of the attackers?”

“No, Alpha. Hethas and Kalan took off to try and track, but lost the trail.”

Valshar growled. That news meant the strike group of the northern pack could still be within the pack lands. “Assist with the rally; get everyone to fall back to the rock, immediately.”

They all nodded and took off.

He turned and motioned to Melody, “Come on, let’s go back inside.”

Wolf Moon (private rp) - Page 5 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Wolf Moon (private rp)   Wolf Moon (private rp) - Page 5 EmptyThu Jan 02, 2014 12:54 am

Telling Valshar that she was scared wasn't something she wanted to do, nor telling him that she couldn't sleep.

After the incident she had asked him questions, and he answered but she felt he had been holding details back. When Melody had asked him anything about the Northern pack is when she felt he wasn't telling her the whole truth. All she knew was that the Northern Pack seemed to be making a move on invading Valshar's territory.

She lay on his wolf form again, snuggled into his fur and listened to his slow breathing. Her thoughts wouldn't let her sleep no matter how long she kept her eyes closed and tried remembering boring lectures from her teachers that always had her nodding off.

With an irritated sigh, Melody slowly slid off of Valshar, making sure to keep an eye on him so that he didn't wake. When she was sure that he hadn't even flinched she went to sit near the fire pit, poking at the flames with a tree branch. Here I am, putting myself in the middle of a war between werewolf packs.... she thought. I'm supposed to feel happy but now everything has changed. It's dangerous...

"Did I make the right decision?" Melody grumbled to herself while staring at the flames.

Her mind had almost completely fallen asleep when she heard the mare outside pawing at the ground where her tethering was. "I am ready to pay Sani for the horse." Melody heard Valshar growl a few moments later, followed by the sound of him stretching over the makeshift bed.

She stared at him for a moment. "It could be a messenger." Melody offered before stiffling a yawn. "That poor mare has been anxious since we have arrived. I think she's not used to being around so many wolves at once."

Wolf Moon (private rp) - Page 5 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Wolf Moon (private rp)   Wolf Moon (private rp) - Page 5 EmptyThu Jan 02, 2014 2:32 am

Valshar rose and tried to shake the weariness from him. His sleep had been restless, and not nearly long enough.

A high, keening howl startled Melody and she looked over at Valshar with a question on her face. His expression was grim, and his eyes distant.

“Damn your soul, Morlach. I swear I will see an end to you.” He growled.

Melody swallowed hard, “Valshar? What’s going on?”

He looked over at her, his expression softening and he walked over to hug her tightly. “It means Selan didn’t make it. That’s five wolves now that we know of now who have been killed.”

He began pacing. “Gal’fyrath kaer.” He cursed, “I will not stand by and let my pack picked apart.”

Her brows furrowed in concern as she watched him. “Do you know who’s doing it? What are you going to do?”

Valshar growled and muttered several more curses and nodded, “I know exactly who, and I can guess as to the why. As for what I’m going to do…” He stopped and sighed deeply as he looked at her. “I don’t know yet.”

“It’s the northern pack, led by a b…” He glanced at her and censored himself. “By a wolf named Morlach. He hates me, feeling is rather mutual.”

“Why does he hate you?”

Valshar gave her a wry grin, “You remember me mentioning a big war that happened a long time ago?”

She nodded.

“Morlach started that war. He killed my father during it. He hoped this pack would collapse when the alpha died; he wasn’t counting on me taking over. We came together on the field of battle, and in the course of the fight I blinded him in one eye, he wounded me. I survived. He was forced to retreat and that ended the war.”

He pointed to the deep jagged scars across his chest. “That’s from that fight, from him.”

She sat down and frowned, “What’s going to happen now?”

“He’s trying to push us into another war, and if he’s figured out I’m back as Alpha he also likely knows how weakened the pack has become. So he’s betting it’ll be an easy win. It might be too, unless I can stop him first. But more importantly I have to stop his wolves. The group killing wolves here has to be stopped before anything else is done. Of course, killing them will give him another reason to stir his pack up for a war.”

“Is there any way to stop this that doesn’t involve a war?”

He looked at her, and then looked away. “There is one way. The only way to end it without a war.”

“How?”

“Kill Morlach in Challenge and take over his pack.”

Her eyes went wide and she sat there staring at him. “Do you think you could beat him?”

Valshar stared at the floor and shrugged. “Don’t know.”

"Then you will find another way." Melody told him in a firm tone. "When you fought against Tyroth you knew for sure that you could win. If you have no idea of what the outcome of this fight may be then it isn't worth it."

Valshar shook his head. "There isn't another way."

"There has to be!" She countered, stopping him from saying anything more. "If you lose then your pack would be destroyed. If you win you would end up gravely injured and the pack will be vulnerable to more attacks! How could you even think of such a thing!"

He waited patiently for her to finish, feeling regret for having told her his plan at all. He had never seen such anger n Melody's eyes before. "You don't understand, Melody." He replied, trying to pull her towards him for a hug but she moved away from him. "Melody-"

"I will not accept this decision. You will have to find another, even if I have to help you!" She cut him off angrily. The last thing she wanted was to lose him, and she knew that the pack would suffer greatly from the loss. "Who's to say he still won't try to take over the pack? If Morlach is as ruthless as you claim, then it won't matter what the result of the challenge is!"

Valshar sighed and turned away. He shifted back to wolf form and headed for the lair entrance.

“Valshar! Where are you going?”

“I need to talk to the council.” He glanced back over his shoulder at her. “Stay here.” His tone made it clear that it was an order, not a request, and he disappeared outside.

Melody huffed and glared after him before trying to make herself comfortable to wait for him.

Valshar spent two hours discussing matters and developments with the council and listening to the growing list of concerns and fears. As the council wolves dispersed again, Valshar stood quietly and sighed heavily. He had a growing list of things to worry about, and still no reasonable solution.

Kynar walked over and sat down beside him. “So… have you taken her yet?”

Valshar snapped his head around to look at the older wolf with a glare. Kynar just chuckled.

“I’ll take that as a no.”

“None of your business anyways.”

Kynar tilted his head, “True. But maybe you should. At least give her something to remember you by if you go doing something suicidal.”

“Hmph.” Valshar snorted. “She wants a human wedding.”

“And you agreed to that?”

Valshar nodded, “Yes.”

Kynar laughed, “You really are hopeless. But maybe she can have one of those with a nice human male she’ll meet after you get yourself killed.”

Valshar looked over at him. “Thank you so much for the vote of confidence,” His voice dripping with sarcasm.

Kynar grinned, “Don’t mention it. Always happy to help.”

He sighed, “Really think my chances are that bad?”

The older wolf shook his head, “It’s not that I don’t have the utmost confidence in your abilities, Valshar, but we both know Morlach doesn’t fight fair. You remember how long it took the healers to fix you after the last time you fought him?”

Valshar nodded grimly, “Yeah, I still have a nice scar to remind me.”

Kynar stood up, “Well, not much we can do for now anyway. Why don’t you go get some rest? The last of the outliers should be gathered in by morning.”

Valshar nodded, “Thank you.”

The old wolf smiled, “Just wish I could be more help, this is a tough spot. But if anyone can get us out of it, I know you’ll manage.”

Valshar gave a wry half smile and headed back toward the lair, and Melody.

Valshar trudged his way up to the lair entrance, going over his conversation with Kynar. The challenge would have many outcomes, all of them either coming out with him severely wounded or dead. It was something he didn't want to go through again, and admitting it to himself was anything but calming.

His thoughts then trailed on to Melody. The anger from her earlier was most likely still there, and she had every right to have it. Valshar had no intention of telling her how much danger she would be in if Morlach discovered her.

"I warmed up the stew." He heard her voice carry over through the small room as he stepped in, steeling himself for the tirade. There was still that bite in her tone. "You should eat up and get some rest."

"We still need to speak about something. On the day that the challe-"

"I don't want to speak of it." Came the sharp reply as she angrily jabbed at something in her bowl. "I just want to eat and go to bed. Tomorrow, Miriam invited me to meet other pack members."

Valshar took a deep breath to calm his own his own anger. "Melody. On the day of the challenge you are leaving the pack lands."

She stabbed at something harder in her bowl again before setting it down on the small table. "I'm going to tend to the mare." Melody replied.

He moved quickly, grabbing her arm before she could pass by him. "Melody, it's not something that can be prevented."

"So that's it then?" Melody said angrily, turning to him. "You propose to me and bring me here, then you expect me to leave so easily while you go off and get yourself injured and suffering or killed! I would never get to see you again!"

Melody angrily tried again to pull away from Valshar’s grip. He held tight and pulled her into his arms, despite her efforts to push him away. She was unhappy with him, he knew that, but he had to make her understand. He wrapped his arms tightly around her, burying his face in her hair against the side of her neck and inhaling deeply, taking comfort in her scent. His body nearly trembled as he held her close.

“Please, Melody. You said you don’t want me to hide things from you, so please, sit down so we can talk about this.” His voice held a note she’d never heard before, and his eyes when she turned her head to look at him were pleading.

Slowly she nodded and he let go of her and sat down by the fire, motioning for her to join him. She did, but her eyes still told him she wasn’t happy about the situation.

“The council and I discussed several possible options, though none of them really come out to a real solution. The last of the pack members should all be gathered here in this area by tomorrow. I don’t want this to come to a fight, but I doubt Morlach will give me any other option.”

He sighed deeply, “If it does come to a fight, you have to promise me that you will go to Sani’s and stay there. I have to know you’re safe.”

“But…” She started to protest and he cut her off.

“Melody, I couldn’t fight if I’m worried about you. It would leave me distracted and that would give Morlach all that he’d need to kill me. If I’m to have any chance of surviving a fight with him, you have to be where you’re safe. Please. Please promise me, and do it.”

She folded her arms over her chest and frowned.

“I didn’t want something like this to happen, I certainly wasn’t expecting trouble like this when I asked you to marry me. I was looking forward to being with you, and being able to enjoy showing you the pack lands and introducing you to everyone. But trouble’s come, and I can’t ignore it. Five of my wolves are dead now. It’s my job, and my duty as the Alpha to defend and protect this pack to the best of my ability. With my life if necessary.”

She stood, anger flaring in her eyes again, “And what about your duty to me?”

He took a deep breath and looked up at her. “It is the same thing, Melody. Even more so. You’re not just my pack, or a part of my pack. You are my world. You are the reason I started caring about living again, you are why I want to live.”

He stood up and took hold of her shoulders, forcing her to look at him. “Morlach is a wolf who has no qualms about raping the females of his own pack whenever he wants. Do you really think he’d be any gentler with anyone from my pack as much as he hates me?” He shuddered and pulled her close again, “I can’t even think about what would happen if he found you. Please, if it comes to a fight, don’t make me go into it worried about you. If I can’t face that fight knowing the woman I love with all my heart is safe, then I might as well die right here and now and save Morlach the trouble.”

He ran his fingers through her hair and nuzzled her tenderly, “There’s a slim chance we still might find a way around it, maybe I won’t have to fight him. So for now, please, just promise me you’ll go to Sani’s if it comes to it, and until then, let’s just rest and wait to see what happens.”

Melody couldn't think of any words to say, and her anger slowly started to disappear when she could almost feel Valshar's own words trembling as he held her. There was no way she could stay upset with him, not when all he had been caring about this whole time was her safety. It broke her heart, and she felt terrible for having yelled at him with so much anger.

"Valshar..." She whispered, burying her face into his shirt. "I'm sorry. I'm just scared....I don't want to lose you. If it comes down to a fight I...may never see you again. It frightens me to no end! I haven;t been able to sleep because of it." Melody admitted, feelnig the tears start to form.

"I promise. If a challenge must happen then I will ride out to Sani's manor the following morning. Morlach will not even know I was here and you will be able to destroy that horrible wolf."

Valshar hugged her tightly and leaned in to kiss her. “Thank you.” He looked at her. “To be honest, I’m scared too, but this is the only place I can admit it, here with you. Once I step outside this lair I cannot be scared. I have to be strong, confident, and sure, because if I’m not , my pack is not, and that would be giving Morlach what he wants- to see my pack frightened and confused and in chaos.”

He smiled warmly, trying to reassure her, “Come on, I’m not sure I’ll be able to sleep either, but we should try to get some rest.”

She hugged him and nodded, “I’ll try.”

***

Shouts from the wolves outside caused Valshar to snap out of a restless sleep with a growl. “What now.” He wondered and stepped outside, shifting to wolf form as he did so.

A group of patrol wolves were coming toward him, with a strange reddish wolf between them. The red wolf was nearly as large as he was, with a bearing that suggested he wasn’t just a roaming loner.

Valshar stepped forward and narrowed his eyes at the stranger. “Who are you?”

The red wolf shrugged; his eyes and face showing no hint of emotion. “I am insignificant, merely a messenger.”

Valshar stepped closer, snarling, “You’re name, jackal.”

The red wolf lowered his eyes only briefly before speaking, “I am Zyran. Second son of Alpha Morlach of the Ice Claw Pack, with a message for Alpha Valshar of the Firethorn Pack.”

Valshar nodded, “I am Valshar, what is your message?”

Zyran glanced around at the wolves around him. “In accordance with the Ancient Laws, Alpha Morlach does hereby issue formal Challenge for leadership and possession of the Firethorn Pack. Do you accept?”

Stunned looks and shocked murmurs buzzed around the gathered wolves at the words, and Valshar felt every eye of his pack turned toward him. He took a deep breath, keeping his own emotions in check and calmly nodded.

“In accordance with the Ancient Laws, I do accept the Challenge.”

Zyran nodded, “As Challenged, you have right of choosing place and time, shall you do so now?”

Valshar thought for a moment and then nodded again, forcing his voice to stay steady, “Along the northern border of our lands, there is a grove of fir trees near a small pond.”

Zyran considered, and then nodded, “I know the place. When?”

“Tomorrow, sundown.” He leveled his amber gaze on the red wolf, “Sundown, not after. If he’s not present before its full dark he stands forfeit.”

Zyran still showed no emotion, and simply nodded, “Understood. I shall relay the conditions. May I take my leave now?”

Valshar shook his head, “You will be escorted back to the border.”

“Very well.” He turned and the patrol moved with him to escort him out of the territory.

Valshar swallowed hard, still painfully conscious of every wolf watching him. “I’ll be preparing, I would appreciate not being disturbed unless it is urgent.”

Valshar didn't know how long he has stood there, watching Melody shift in her sleep. It was still far too late into the evening, and he didn't want to wake her but he knew she'd want to know what had happened. Slowly, he moved to lay next to her and pull her into his arms tightly, nuzzling her neck. Her scent brought him some comfort when she let out a groan and sleepily kissed his cheek.

"Are you still awake?" Came the half-asleep whisper.

"I didn't want to wake you." He replied quietly.

"It's fine. I know you have trouble sleeping...." She left out a stiffled yawn, stretching out against him before adjusting herself so she could stare up at him and trying to blink away the sleep from her eyes. "Your eyes look so troubled. Try to get some sleep, dear."

Wolf Moon (private rp) - Page 5 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Wolf Moon (private rp)   Wolf Moon (private rp) - Page 5 EmptyFri Jan 03, 2014 4:39 am

He swallowed hard, trying to figure out how to tell her that the one thing they’d hoped to avoid had just happened, only worse, it was he who had been challenged.

“Melody?”

She stirred again wanting to cling to sleep, but something in his voice pulled her more awake, “Did something happen?”

He nodded gravely. “A messenger came. From Morlach.”

She was fully awake now and sat up beside him.

Valshar sighed, “He’s challenged me. I have to face him tomorrow at sundown.”

Her eyes went wide and panic surged through her mind. He reached over and took hold of her hand
.
“There are preparations I need to make, things I have to do. I…I would appreciate it if you would be with me for part of them. There’s enough time to do that, before you need to head for Sani’s.”

She buried her face against his chest, trying hard not to cry at the thought of him having to fight.

“What do you need me to do?”

He got up and moved to the few things they had packed when leaving the cabin, and pulled out the only thing he had insisted on packing himself. He handed her the small carved wood box. “Come with me, and carry that for me please? It’ll be faster and easier if you ride on my back as well.”

He led the way back out the lair entrance and shifted again, turning his head to wait for her. She walked up beside him and ran her hands over his furry shoulder, “Are you sure?”

He nodded, “Yes, I know the way and I’m faster than the horse. She’ll need to be rested for later.”

Melody frowned at that thought and climbed up on his back, fidgeting for a moment until she found a comfortable spot and could keep her balance.

“You’re not as easy as a horse though.” She teased, trying to lighten the mood a little before it got to her.

“Just hang on to the box and me, it’ll be fine.” He started moving and after he was sure she was hanging on well enough, lengthened his stride and went faster.

He turned up a winding path that led to the summit of what the pack called the Rock, a small mountain that formed the center point of their territory. Once at the top, he looked around for the right spot for what he needed.

“Okay, you can get down now.” He told her, and she slid down off the furry back.

He dug a shallow hole and trotted back down the mountain path far enough to grab some wood and came back to build a small fire. He held his hand out and she handed him the box. He settled himself down by the fire and motioned her to sit beside him.

“I need to feel you near me, keep your hand on me please.”

She reached over and put her hand on his leg where he sat cross-legged, and nodded, worry creeping into her expression again.

Valshar opened a small pouch and sprinkled some of the powder out of it into the fire, and a warm musky scent started to mingle with the smoke. He closed his eyes, letting his mind focus on the scent of the herbs and the feel of Melody’s hand anchoring him.

He spoke softly, words Melody couldn’t understand, the ancient wolf tongue.

Ancestors hear me.
Let me prove worthy in the Challenge ahead.
Ancestors guide me.
Lend me your strength and cunning.
Lend me your speed and courage.
Ancestors hear my plea,
Protect me, help me defend my Pack.

He took a deep breath, unconsciously shivering from pouring so much energy into the words. Slowly his awareness returned and he placed his hand lightly on Melody’s and smiled.

“Thank you.”

“I couldn’t understand it, but it sounded like a prayer.”

He nodded, “It was. A very, very old prayer. One I never thought I’d need to use.”

He shifted back to wolf form and curled himself around her. “It’s almost dawn. We can watch the sunrise from here. You’ll need to be on the way back to Sani’s by noon.”

“I’ll go, and I’ll wait there. You better come back to me.”

“I have every intention of doing so, love. Not looking to let you out of our engagement that easily.” He smiled, trying to push his own worries aside for her sake.

Wolf Moon (private rp) - Page 5 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Wolf Moon (private rp)   Wolf Moon (private rp) - Page 5 EmptyFri Jan 03, 2014 10:53 pm

"Good, because I really don't want this to be the last time we see each other..."

Melody sprawled out against his side, idly running a hand through his fur and sighed. To say it like that made her chest feel tight, and almost hard to breath. It was hard enough to hold back the tears despite the firm thought she had to repeat to herself that Valshar wouldn't lose. And that he would arrive at Sani's manor with that wolfish smile on his face, then they would kiss until neither of them could breath.

and then we could get married and start our family together...

The thought gave Melody some comfort. Even more so than the orange-red colors that started to melt their way through the sky, and she made herself more comfortable against Valshar, and they both sat in silence while watching the sun rise.

The last thing she remembered was falling asleep.

Beofre she had known it, Valshar was pulling away from her and the calming silence ended. The sun was moving higher and higher into the sky. "Melody, if you are to leave by noon we should head back now."

"I don't want to leave..." She replied as she rubbed the sleep from her eyes. She noticed the loop that he gave her and she sighed, climbing onto his back carefully.

***

As the sun moved higher, Melody couldn't help but feel more and more nervous. The mare was loaded up and ready to leave even though noon was still at least 2 hours away. She sat in the den, fidgeting as Miriam fussed over a few cubs that had wandered inside out of curiosity. They were adorable, but she couldn't get into the joyful mood she had wanted too.

Valshar was off to finish a few more preparations, and deciding that she needed company, the shewolf had decided that Melody needed some company after claiming she looked depressed.

"Miriam..." Melody said after one of the pups let out a whine and tried biting on her skirts. "What if this is the last time I get to see him?"

Miriam finally shooed the wayward pups back outside to their mother and then turned back to comfort Melody, “He’s a strong one, Valshar is, don’t you fret. He’ll come through just fine.”

Melody sighed, trying to keep from crying. “I’m just so worried.”

Miriam hugged her gently, “That’s understandable, my dear. In truth, we’re all worried for him. There’s a lot riding on the outcome, and he knows it. That’s a lot of pressure on him, but he has something Morlach never will.”

Melody blinked, “What’s that?”

The old she wolf smiled, “He has someone like you that loves him, and he has all of us who believe in him. He needs you to believe in him too. Feel the love you have for him and you hold tight to that, believe in him with all your heart. He’ll win, you’ll see.”

Valshar stepped into the lair and Miriam nodded to him and made to leave, but he stopped her.

“Miriam.”

“Yes, Alpha?”

“Find Kynar, please, and tell him that you and he are to accompany Melody.”

She nodded and left the lair. Valshar looked over at Melody and he smiled, “Don’t look so sad, I’m not dead yet.”

Melody rushed over and hugged him tightly, “Valshar, don’t even joke about that, please. I can’t help that I’m worried.”

He held her close and nuzzled her, “I’m sorry. It’s time for you to go.”

“I love you, Valshar.”

He kissed her, “I love you too, and I promise, I’ll see you again after this is over. I’m not that easy to get rid of me. In a couple years you’ll be trying to chase me out of the lair with a broom, just wait.”

She managed a half smile at the thought. “I’ll hold you to that.”

When they got outside, Miriam greeted them both, but Kynar looked unhappy.

“Valshar, I’m your beta, I should be standing as your second for this.”

Valshar nodded, “Kynar I couldn’t ask for a more worthy beta, nor a better friend. That is exactly why I am asking this of you and Miriam. Please, go with Melody, keep her safe. Pick out four others to fill the escort, and see her to Sani’s and stay with her until this is over.”

Kynar sighed, “Alright, I’ll go. You just better not lose.”

Valshar gave him a wry grin, “If I lose you can come kill me, eh?”

“Heh, might just.” Kynar muttered as he shifted back to wolf form and went in search of the rest of the escort wolves.

Valshar helped Melody up on the mare’s back and gave her hand a gentle squeeze to reassure her and then turned away and headed northward to the chosen challenge spot.

"Miriam, if he loses, what will you and Kynar do?" Melody asked as she watched Valshar shift and leaped into a run out of sight. The mare let out a nervous snort when the shewolf moved closer to add another few items into the bags.

"The Alpha has put you under our care, and that is what we will do." Came the response, followed by more scolding as the pups from another shewolf went darting by. "We won't worry about it until it happens, Na'sera."

She turned to star at the woman when she heard that word. It sounded like the language Valshar had heard use when he spoke to a few members of the pack. Miriam noticed this and gave her a light smile. "It is a term we use for the Alpha's mate." she explained simply, nodding a greeting to Kynar when he arrived with 4 larger wolves.

"Come, let's get going." He said in a hurried voice, and Melody nudges the mare into a trot.

"We need to hurry. Morlach has wolves scouting the rim of our borders, trying to kill off any of our patrols. The sooner we leave, the better chance we have at avoiding them."

PostSubject: Re: Wolf Moon (private rp)   Wolf Moon (private rp) - Page 5 EmptySat Jan 04, 2014 5:10 am

Valshar took the time to hunt, but only blooded his kills. The meat he sent back to the pack with two young hunters who had accompanied him. The blood from his kills would provide strength any energy he knew he would need in the fight, without the worry of being weighed down with a belly full of meat.

When he reached the appointed place for the Challenge, he was pleased to see the council already gathered. He nodded a greeting to them and took his place in the circle that had been scratched in the ground. A dark brindle grey wolf stepped forward, bowing his head.

“Alpha, I was told you wanted me to be here?”

Valshar nodded, “Yes, Bael, I would like you to stand as my second.”

Bael blinked and looked at him, “My Alpha, you do me a great honor. I would gladly stand for you.”

“Thank you. Take your place then. Morlach should be here soon.”

Bael stood just outside the circle, behind and to Valshar’s left. He shifted nervously, but then caught himself and straightened up. Valshar turned his head to look at him.

“Nervous?”

He shook his head, “No, Alpha.”

Valshar smiled, “No shame in it, Bael, as long as it doesn’t make you foolish.”

“Are you nervous, Alpha?”

Valshar sighed, “I can’t afford to be. The Alpha doesn’t have that luxury.”

They waited for nearly a half hour, and the sun was just beginning to dip low on the horizon. From the north, Valshar caught sight of Morlach and his entourage.

Morlach stepped into the circle, flanked just behind by two red wolves. Valshar recognized one as the messenger from the night before. Behind him further back from the circle, his council spread out.

“I’m surprised you showed up, whelp.” He snarled at Valshar.

“What? And miss a chance to see your pretty face again Morlach?” He countered coolly. He knew Morlach would likely try to make him angry, and thus careless. “I honestly do think I managed to improve your looks considerably. If you like I’d be happy to make the other side match.”

The two males slowly circled one another, studying their opponent for signs of weakness.

Morlach sneered, “I hear that you’ve taken a new mate. I look forward to getting very well acquainted with her when I’m done killing you.”

Valshar felt the surge of anger welling up within him and he held it in check tightly. He kept his outward expression calm and refused to rise to the bait.

“A little premature to be making plans don’t you think?”

“Hah, maybe I shall pluck out your eyes so she can have something to remember you by while she’s on her back begging me for mercy.”

Again Valshar forced himself not to react, all the while cursing Morlach in his mind. “You’ll never touch her, bastard.” He thought to himself.

Morlach finally made the first move, launching a sudden lunge at Valshar. Anticipating the attack, Valshar sprang into motion as well. In an instant the stillness of the clearing was shattered as the two clashed with bloodcurdling growls and snarls.

***

Around the Rock, the Pack gathered, most hiding in dens and lairs while sentries kept watch. They all felt the sunset and bowed their heads in silent prayers that their Alpha would triumph.

Wolf Moon (private rp) - Page 5 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Wolf Moon (private rp)   Wolf Moon (private rp) - Page 5 EmptySat Jan 04, 2014 6:36 am

The sun was just barely starting to set as Melody was helped off of the tired mare by Kynar. The other wolves had shifted their forms and were now standing close by, eyeing the edge of the woods carefully as they made the slow trudge up to the door. They were greeted by the servants and led into the main room to wait while another left to fetch Sani.

It wasn't long before she walked into the room and immediately noticed the sullen and worn look on Melody's face. She ignored the scoff and biting comment from Alexander. "Melody, what happened?" Sani asked in a worried tone, inviting Kynar and the others farther inside.

Melody did all that she could before to hold back the tears but now she couldn't do it anymore. "Valshar was challenged by the Nothern pack." She hiccupped. "The fight was to start at sundown and he sent me here with some of the pack members. I don't know how long the fight will beor what will happen. The chances of him winning are so small."

Sani stared at her for a moment, letting the information sink in before she took the girl into a tight hug. "If Valshar were here he'd be upset for you shedding your tears like this. That stubborn old wolf won't be taken out so easily." She then looked up at Kynar and Mariam with a smile. "You and your pack members are free to stay here as long as you need to. We have plenty of spare rooms."

"We appreciate the offer." Kynar replied. "But before it is necessary, I would like to wait until we know the outcome of the fight. The sun has already set...."

He trailed off and glanced out towards the door. "It has already started. Once it is over, a messanger should be here by morning....if Valshar has won."

Wolf Moon (private rp) - Page 5 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Wolf Moon (private rp)   Wolf Moon (private rp) - Page 5 EmptySat Jan 04, 2014 10:57 pm

Melody had finally worn herself into a restless sleep on one of the sofas in Sani’s sitting room. Miriam sat beside her, and Kynar paced the floor in wolf form.

“Are you still upset that he didn’t let you be his second?” Miriam asked him.

He paused in his pacing and shook his head with a sigh, “No, not really. I understand his reasons. Keeping her safe is more important to him than me being there. I just don’t like not knowing what’s happening.”

Suddenly a howl from outside caused the hackles to rise along the back of his neck as he turned to the door. One of the sentry wolves came in.

“Messenger coming!”

Hearing the commotion, Melody woke up, blinking confusedly. “What? What’s going on?”

Kynar looked over at her, “There’s a messenger coming.”

They all went to the door in time to greet a wolf who nearly collapsed gasping for breath. Kynar shifted form and knelt beside the runner.

“Breath a moment, then tell us.”

The messenger nodded, finally able to speak between pants, “Challenge over, lasted near three hours before Morlach finally dropped. Valshar won.” He looked up at Melody, “But he’s bad hurt, needs you there fast.”

Melody stood in shock for a moment, her mind struggling to process the information. Kynar gaped, shocked as well.

“They fought for three hours before one of them went down?”

The messenger nodded.

“By the First Wolf…” Kynar muttered.

Finally Melody started to move, “I’ll tell Sani I need the mare…”

“No.” Kynar cut her off, “No time for that, we can’t wait for that slow beast. If he’s hurt badly you need to be there now. You’ll ride on my back.” He turned to the messenger, “Stay here until you’re rested, and let Sani know we’ll send someone back for things later.”

He shifted to wolf form and motioned for Melody to get on. “Come on. Just hang on tight.”

When they finally came to a stop just outside the lair, Melody lost her grip and tumbled off Kynar’s back to land in the soft grass. He blinked at her, “I’m sorry. Are you alright?”

She nodded, standing up. “Yes, I’m just not used to riding wolves.”

He grinned and then nodded toward the lair door, “Go to him.”

Stepping into the lair, Melody feared the worst. Nothing she imagined could have prepared her for the reality of what she saw when she stopped inside.

Valshar lay on blanket in the middle of the floor, a soft leather muzzle keeping his jaws closed while three healers worked on him. Melody nearly started to protest the idea of a muzzle on him but suddenly one of the healers touched a nerve. Valshar’s head whipped around with a vicious snarl and his jaws strained at the muzzle as he growled.

As his lips curled back, Melody was struck by just how dangerous those teeth could be, and understood now the need for the muzzle. One of the healers looked up and smiled at her.

“Thank the First Wolf you’re here. Just bide there a moment until we’re done.”

She nodded weakly, feeling utterly helpless as she noticed the dreadful amount of blood staining the blanket under him. One healer was working to stitch up a wicked long gash down his side and flank, another was tending to a severe gash down his shoulder, while the last was tending to a badly injured hind leg.

Finally they finished and the oldest one reached up and untied the leather from his muzzle and motioned Melody over.

“I’m sorry Alpha, we’re done for now.”

Valshar panted heavily, his amber eyes glazed with pain, but he caught Melody’s scent as she moved closer, and he raised his head with a low whine.

“M…Mel…Melody.” He panted.

“Yes, I’m here, Valshar.” She said as she sat down close to him.

His head weaved back and forth for a moment and he struggled to get his legs under him. “No Alpha stay still!” the healers cried, but he ignored them and managed to move over enough. With sharp yelp and another whine from the excruciating pain, he finally laid his head in Melody’s lap, pressing himself as close to her as possible. He tilted his head just enough so he could look up at her. Tears formed in his eyes, not just from the pain but also the overwhelming joy he felt knowing she was there and safe.

“L…Love you.” He managed before going limp against her.

Melody’s heart nearly stopped until she realized he was still breathing. She looked helplessly at the healers.

“He over exerted himself.” The oldest one spoke, motioning for the other two to leave.

Melody frowned and looked down at Valshar, “I didn’t mean for him to move.”

The old healer settled down beside her and smiled, “I wasn’t scolding, my dear. I’m Naya by the way.”

“Pleased to meet you.”

“You’re human, so I do wonder if you really understand the full significance of what he just did.”

Melody blinked and then shook her head, “I…I don’t… I just have so much to learn.”

Naya smiled, “It’s alright, you’ll sort it all out in time. Perhaps I can help some though.”

“I would appreciate it if you don’t mind.”

The old healer nodded, “I’ve known Valshar since he was a young pup. Maybe I can help you understand him better.”

“Really?” Melody couldn’t help but chuckle at the idea of Valshar as a pup. “What was he like?”

“Precocious, full of mischief, stubborn, and strangely serious.”

“Guess he never outgrew the stubborn part. What do you mean strangely serious?”

Naya smiled, “True, he’s still quite stubborn. But he’s always taken things very seriously. I could never really tell if it was just his nature, or something he developed being the Alpha’s heir. But as to this,” She motioned to the sleeping wolf, “You need to understand why it’s so significant. Generally when a wolf is badly hurt and in pain they will not move, for anything. For him to force himself to move, to put himself as close to you as he possibly could in spite of the intense pain he’s in, that shows just how much he values you. It says clearer than anything else that you are truly his life mate, his chosen. That is why it’s important that you be here to help him.”

Melody blinked, taking it all in, “But what can I do?”

“Exactly what you are doing. Love him, and be here. The strength of your love for him will strengthen him, and the bond you share is the anchor his soul needs to keep from getting lost right now.”

“D…do you think he’ll make it?”

Naya placed a gentle hand on Valshar’s head next to Melody’s, “He’s strong, and very stubborn, and he loves you very much. If he makes it through tonight, he should be alright.”
